INVERTIA have been called Oppressive Industrial Black Metal. Although this description can be dawned by this Massachusetts duo its been said that they “can not be discredited for the lack of trying to create something wholly different from everything else.” Invertia’s music ridicules the hypocrisy of cult-religious fervor with nitroglycerin and napalm shred guitars and psycho-bombastic drum programming.
Invertia runs the gammet of influences. Guitarist/Vocalist Dave Coppola brings traditional black metal as well as a dissonance and speed that rumbles throughout the world of industrial grindcore to the table. Programmer/Keyboardist Tim Winson unleashes influences very seldom heard in these abysmal genres, with his ferocious self titled “buzz beat” which makes a blast beat sound tired and boring.
The band’s self titled debut described by Metal Army America as a “bastard child of Gorgoroth” and featuring “some of low- fi jaunts Al Jourgensen (Ministry) has taken us on” is not only aptly described as oppresive but can be flat out overwhelming.
The follow up album to 2013’s self-titled debut, Another Scheme of the Wicked combines a blistering 5-track assault with 5 remixes from various musical backgrounds, including Ohm Resistance veterans Justin K. Broadrick (GODFLESH, JESU), End.user (THE BLOOD OF HEROES), and Submerged (METHOD OF DEFINANCE, THE BLOOD OF HEROES). A mirror displaying some of the darkest paradoxes and truly terrifying segments of American society, INVERTIA’s music ridicules the hypocrisy of cult-religious fervor with nitroglycerin and napalm shred guitars and psycho-bombastic drum programming.
INVERTIA contributed to the Science Slam Sonic Explorer’s series on the EP titled “Deep Time Predator” also featuring others such as At The Gates frontman Tompa Lindberg, Submerged, Tomas Andersson of DENATA and American sound deformers ZERFALLMENSCH. The subject: a predatory fossil, a half-meter long worm with deadly jaws that lived 420 million years ago, discovered by paleontologist Mats E. Eriksson (Lund University) and appropriately named Kingnites Diamondi in tribute to the musical legacy of King Diamond.
On December 9, 2016 INVERTIA released The Biddings of Tyrants. Following 2014’s sophomore tour de force Another Scheme of the Wicked (Ohm Resistance), the self-release sees INVERTIA taking its oppressive industrial metal to harsh new heights.
The Biddings of Tyrants still retains the INVERTIA sound of industrial black metal with added elements of death metal and hardcore punk. The album as a whole, musically and lyrically, focuses on the world around us and its effect on the human psyche. However, each song is a different Bidding from a different Tyrant.
Produced by INVERTIA, The Biddings of Tyrants again features the multi-talented tandem of Dave Coppola (vocals, guitars, bass, FX, samples) and Tim Winson (drum programming, synth, mixing/mastering). The album also features the drumming of Aaron Rossi (MINISTRY, PRONG) and Kevin Talley (SUFFOCATION, DYING FETUS, SIX FEET UNDER); the former performing on “Dystopiate,” “Non-Sunni,” and “The Forever Incision,” and the latter on “Scatter” and “Not for Taste.”
INVERTIA is influenced by many styles of music and many artists, including MINISTRY, ABORYM, MAYHEM, IMMORTAL, GODFLESH, and SKINNY PUPPY, as well as WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS and GEORGE CARLIN.
INVERTIA has been described by Metal Army America as a “bastard child of Gorgoroth.” One could also view them as a hybrid of SKINNY PUPPY, SUFFOCATON, MERZBOW, and EDWARD SNOWDEN: revealing the truth by demonstrably inflating the cultural lies and political deceit of our times.INVERTIA has been described by Metal Army America as a “bastard child of Gorgoroth.” One could also view them as a hybrid of SKINNY PUPPY, SUFFOCATON, MERZBOW, and EDWARD SNOWDEN: revealing the truth by demonstrably inflating the cultural lies and political deceit of our times.
